Dr. Daniel J. Evans, CBCP

Dr. Daniel J. Evans is the President and Managing Director of Nevermore Crisis & Security Advisors. He has built a career across the U.S. military, federal and local law enforcement, and senior leadership roles at global consulting firms, bringing more than twenty years of operational and strategic experience to clients navigating their most consequential risks.

A U.S. Army combat veteran, Dan served as both an Infantry Officer and later as a Senior Noncommissioned Officer, leading soldiers in combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom II with the 3rd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division in Baghdad and Sadr City. He also served with the 20th Special Forces Group and in multiple leadership assignments throughout the Army Reserve and National Guard, with assignments in information operations, targeting, and crisis response. He currently serves as a First Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Following active duty, Dan served as a police officer and intelligence liaison with the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department, gaining direct experience in domestic counterterrorism and community safety. He transitioned into corporate advisory, holding senior roles at EY, Deloitte, and Associate Partner-level positions in global consulting. At EY, he authored the firm's Physical Security, Crisis, Intelligence & Assessments methodology, which was deployed across global clients. At Deloitte, he advised corporate and government leaders on cyber strategy, crisis simulation, and operational resilience, including high-profile advisory during the Russia-Ukraine crisis. In his subsequent Associate Partner role, he designed and led enterprise resilience, supply chain risk, AI governance, and cybersecurity strategy programs for Fortune 100 enterprises, and contributed to firm-wide AI transformation initiatives.

Dan is also a published researcher and thought leader in international relations, homeland security, and risk management. He founded the International Relations & Affairs Group, a professional community of nearly 150,000 members worldwide, and served as Editor-in-Chief of its peer-reviewed journal. His doctoral research on intelligence dissemination is listed on the U.S. Naval War College Library's research guide for the field.

Carl Herron

Carl Herron leads Nevermore's Security Risk Management and Threat Management practices. A retired FBI Supervisory Special Agent and former CNN counterterrorism contributor, Carl brings more than three decades of professional experience in law enforcement, crisis management, physical security, and critical infrastructure protection across public and private sectors.

Carl spent his federal career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, rising to Supervisory Special Agent and serving as the FBI Atlanta Field Office's Crisis Response Supervisor. In that role he led rapid deployment and crisis response for critical incidents, managing logistical, technical, and operational support for major event readiness across the Southeast.

Carl has coordinated security operations for several Olympic Games - the 1996 Atlanta Games, the 2006 Turin Winter Games, and the 2012 London Olympics, where he served as the Deputy Olympic Security Facilitator for the U.S. government and was responsible for developing and executing the FBI's Operational Plan and Continuity of Operations Plan, ensuring cooperation between U.S. and UK security and intelligence services. He has also coordinated security operations for the Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic and the 2004 G-8 Summit in Sea Island, Georgia. He served on the U.S. government's operational security development team supporting Beijing and Hong Kong.

From 2012 to 2016, Carl served as an on-air counterterrorism contributor for CNN, providing expert analysis on homeland security, special event safety, and emerging threats.

Following his retirement from the FBI, Carl served as Security Manager for the Georgia Dome and as Principal Critical Infrastructure Physical Security Advisor at the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), where he conducted extensive physical security assessments and advised utility providers on regulatory compliance and best practices. At Ernst & Young, he served as Advisory Manager, providing strategic consulting in security operations, threat assessment, and crisis preparedness across healthcare, research, and corporate environments.

Carl is also an experienced international trainer, having designed and delivered crisis management and special event security training for the Pakistani Federal Police and military, the Ethiopian Federal Police, and the National Intelligence/Security Service.

Lalita J. Balakrishnan, CISSP

Lalita J. Balakrishnan leads Nevermore's Governance, Risk & Compliance and AI Governance & Cybersecurity Risk practices, which she built and continues to direct. She brings a rare combination: enterprise cybersecurity and GRC consulting experience built at a Big Four firm, paired with operational military intelligence experience that shapes how she reads threat environments.

Lalita serves as a Captain in Military Intelligence and Information Operations in the United States Army Reserve, with two operational deployments - to Afghanistan and to the Horn of Africa. Her intelligence work has focused on illicit trade networks, terrorist recruitment activity, counterintelligence operations, and regional threat analysis involving state-sponsored adversaries. She has directed Human Intelligence collection efforts and provided mission-critical intelligence support in complex operational environments. She reads threat environments the way intelligence professionals do, which changes what her assessments catch.

Prior to joining Nevermore, Lalita served as a GRC Cybersecurity Consultant at Ernst & Young, where she led enterprise-wide cybersecurity and compliance initiatives for clients across critical infrastructure, technology, and regulated industries. Her work focused on designing and implementing governance programs, conducting integrated cyber and physical security assessments, and advising executive leadership on regulatory risk and operational resilience. She has extensive experience aligning organizations with NIST CSF 2.0, NIST 800-53, NIST 800-171, SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR, DFARS, PCI-DSS, ISO 27001, ISO 27017, and ISO 42001.

Lalita has also developed enterprise risk and control frameworks from the ground up, integrating cybersecurity, physical security, and operational governance into cohesive security programs. She partners closely with facilities, IT, and executive stakeholders to strengthen organizational resilience, manage logical and physical access controls, and improve threat awareness and counterintelligence readiness.

Rebecca J. Lawrence, Esq.

Rebecca J. Lawrence is Principal of Legal & AI Governance at Nevermore and a U.S. Department of Justice Honors Program alumna - one of the most selective federal legal-hiring programs in the country. She provides legal oversight and advisory support across Nevermore's governance, resilience, and risk advisory engagements, and serves as the firm's lead advisor on AI-related contractual risk, vendor accountability, and regulatory compliance for emerging technology.

Rebecca is a licensed attorney in both North Carolina and Hawaii, providing multi-jurisdictional legal insight across Nevermore's client engagements. She leads legal strategy initiatives and advises on governance and compliance considerations affecting organizational security, resilience, and risk management programs.

Rebecca is the founding attorney at Freedom Law | NC, where her practice covers family law, criminal defense, civil litigation, and an emerging AI & Legal Risk Advisory practice. Through the formal partnership between Nevermore and Freedom Law | NC, the firm offers integrated legal advisory in a way most security and risk consultancies cannot. When client matters require legal proceedings - contract litigation, regulatory enforcement, post-incident defense - Nevermore's advisory work bridges directly into Freedom Law | NC's practice without handoff to outside counsel.

Earlier in her career, Rebecca was selected for the U.S. Department of Justice Honors Program, where she supported federal legal processes and gained direct exposure to government regulatory and compliance operations.

Lisa Helmstetter, PE, CEM, LEED AP BD+C

Lisa Helmstetter is Director of Engineering & Resilience Advisory at Nevermore. She is a licensed Professional Engineer in North Carolina and Ohio, a Certified Energy Manager, and a LEED Accredited Professional - and she has led the energy audit and modeling of more than seven million square feet of facilities for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, applying advanced energy modeling techniques and managing comprehensive commissioning processes at federal scale.

With over fifteen years of experience transforming complex facilities into high-performing, energy-efficient environments, Lisa brings engineering-grade rigor to security and resilience assessments. When an engagement requires more than a security walkthrough - when it requires actual facility analysis aligned to building systems, energy infrastructure, and operational continuity - Lisa leads it.

Before joining Nevermore, Lisa served as an Engineering Project Manager and a Senior Energy Engineer, positioning her at the helm of large-scale federal and commercial sustainability efforts. She has worked with energy modeling tools including Trace 3D and Trace 700 and brings strategic understanding of energy conservation measures, carbon reduction, and operational efficiency. As a Smart Building Consultant, she directed strategic planning and smart building integration for public and private sector clients, including the General Services Administration and WWE, guiding national initiatives in building automation, energy dashboarding, and measurement and verification.

Her earlier engineering roles at DEVITA, Woolpert, and Heapy Engineering reflect a technically rich foundation in HVAC system design, facility assessment, LEED certification, and mechanical engineering project management across education, senior living, federal government, and international facilities.

Teale Marchette

Teale Marchette is Director of Client Engagement at Nevermore, where he serves as the firm's primary point of contact for organizations seeking advisory support in security, resilience, and risk management. His role is to understand client challenges, identify alignment with Nevermore's capabilities, and connect prospects with the right senior expertise on the team.

Before joining Nevermore, Teale served nearly two decades as a U.S. Army Infantry Officer - 54 missions across 13 countries - building a career defined by leadership under pressure, operational planning, and crisis coordination in some of the most demanding environments in the world.

He commanded an Infantry Company, directed crisis operations across thirteen countries as Operations Officer for a Quick Reaction Force Infantry Battalion in Kuwait, and served as Senior Information Operations Officer in Afghanistan, where he coordinated with Special Operations, CIA, and multinational partners on information risk, influence operations, and threat mitigation. His military career also included training Special Forces Counter-Drug teams in Guatemala, directing large-scale deployment readiness for a 4,000-person unit, and presenting at a multinational counter-drone symposium on emerging threat technology.

Teale brings this operational background to every client conversation - the ability to assess situations quickly, communicate clearly, and move opportunities forward with discipline and follow-through. He is a practitioner, not a salesperson.

Ron Mann

Ron Mann is a Senior Security Consultant at Nevermore with more than three decades of experience spanning military service, federal investigations, state law enforcement, and private sector security. His career is defined by discipline, integrity, and a results-driven approach to investigations and protective operations.

Ron served honorably for ten years in the U.S. Army, first as a Staff Sergeant and later commissioned as a First Lieutenant in Armor. As a Criminal Investigator for the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command (USACIDC), he led investigations into serious crimes involving threats, theft, fraud, and internal misconduct, conducting interviews, interrogations, threat assessments, and producing detailed investigative reports. A combat veteran and helicopter crew chief, Ron also served on the Secretary of Defense's travel protection team and as Executive Officer in the Louisiana Armor Unit 1/156th.

Following his military career, Ron joined the Louisiana State Police, graduating from a nationally certified and federally recognized academy. As a State Trooper, his role involved criminal investigations, traffic collision analysis, enforcement of state and federal laws, and public safety services. He is extensively trained in firearms, defensive tactics, restraint techniques, and emergency response protocols. He has investigated cases involving homicide, sexual assault, arson, and fraud, and his courtroom reports and testimony consistently met the highest standards of accuracy and professionalism.

Ron has also led teams providing comprehensive security solutions for residential and commercial properties, applying field-proven risk assessment, site security design, and liability prevention strategies. He holds Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) clearance and is a DOT-certified Motor Carrier Safety Inspector, bringing transportation-sector credentials to facility and supply-chain security engagements.
